14U Girls Basic Information

Parents,

Thank you all for being patient with me getting things going.  The first two weeks of 08-12U evaluations are pretty hectic.  With that behind me, I'm ready for the fun stuff... coaching!

Practice:For now, practice will be Tuesdays 6:00 to 7:00 and Fridays 5:00 to 6:00.  Calvary Baptist is located at the corner of Douglass and Indian Creek Rd.  Home games will still be at Calvary Baptist.

IMPORTANT: Parking is somewhat limited at Calvary Baptist next to the field.  Do NOT park on the grass.  There is sometimes a club team that practices on this field.  They park on the grass and bring pets.  We cannot do either.  Please do not risk us losing access to the field.  It is a bit of a walk but there is plenty of parking in the church parking lot.

I need a LOT of help.  I am the only volunteer on this team.  Like most everyone, I'm a busy person.  I run my own business and pursue interests outside of coaching AYSO.  There will be weekends where I will be unavailable.  If I don't have a trained assistant coach, we will have to cancel practices and games when I can't be there.  We need referees.  If you can support a couple 8U games on weekends, it frees up more advanced referees to handle our games.  I need team parents to handle team communication.  There isn't much to this but it eats into time I need to prepare for practices and games.

None of these positions requires and in-depth knowledge of soccer.  Like most AYSO volunteers, I started with a limited knowledge of soccer.  I stopped playing soccer when I was 12.  25 years later, a friend asked if I would coach a team and I wondered why he would ask me.  I knew little about the sport.  I got zero training and no help to get started.  I wasn't the best coach in the world but the kids appreciated me being there.  When I joined AYSO, I got some training and figured some things out.  I got a lot of help along the way.  I became a ref and slowly learned the rules.  I wasn't a terribly great referee either.  But the kids appreciated me being out there because they got to play a game that day.  Coaching and refereeing isn't just for the former soccer starts that know all the rules and tactics of the game.  It's for everyone that wants to make a difference for their child's team.

It starts with filling out a volunteer form at www.ayso894.net.  Log into your account and begin the volunteer process.  For team parents, that's all you need to do.  For coaches, here's a step by step instruction.  For referees, here's the process.  Please seriously consider taking on one of these roles.
